Academics must be the top priority of our schools and the School Board. A solid educational foundation is essential for every student's success. We aim to enhance academic excellence through innovative teaching, differentiation within classrooms to meet the needs of each student, and accountability. Our goal is to empower students to achieve their fullest potential and excel, preparing them to compete globally when they depart Lakeville.
Budget Accountability
The Board must ensure budget transparency and accountability in managing our school’s annual budget. Every dollar should be wisely invested to support student success and improve educational outcomes. Clear financial reports should be accessible to the community to foster meaningful discussions about budget decisions. The School Board's role is to hold the district accountable, ensuring resources are aligned to our community's educational goals. This serves the best interests of our students and staff and attracts growth and investment in Lakeville Schools.
Communication and Collaboration
I am committed to fostering strong, collaborative relationships between families and schools, which starts with open lines of communication ensuring that parents have a meaningful role in their child’s education. Parents are vital partners in their children’s educational achievements and should actively contribute to learning outside of the classroom. By valuing and empowering parents, we create a supportive learning environment that benefits both students and the entire school community.
Meet Matt Swanson
I’m Matt Swanson, a dedicated husband, father and attorney with a deep commitment to education. My wife, a former teacher, and I have been married for 18 years and have proudly called Lakeville home for nearly two decades. We are the parents of four children, all of whom are currently enrolled in Lakeville Public Schools. Our family's experiences with the district have given us valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges within our education system.
In my legal career, I have extensive experience advising corporate boards, which has honed my skills in strategic decision-making, governance, and effective policy implementation. Additionally, I served as an adjunct law professor at my alma mater, where I developed a passion for education and a deep appreciation for the impact of strong teaching and mentorship. Beyond my professional and family life, I am heavily engaged in serving through my local church community and coaching Lakeville youth baseball. This involvement has deepened my commitment to community service and reinforced my belief in the power of collaborative efforts to achieve common goals.
I am running for school board to ensure that our schools provide every child with a high-quality education, supported by sound policies and active community involvement. I’m passionate about fostering an environment where students thrive, teachers are supported, and parents are engaged. We have amazing teachers in our Lakeville schools and I am committed to building a strong educational community that prepares our children for a successful future.
